Media personality and television presenter Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, has been arrested in connection with an alleged kidnapping and firearm-related incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.

According to Gauteng police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:30am on Sunday after the driver transported a female passenger to a residential property in the area.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the driver was confronted by a man who allegedly accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.

“It is alleged that at approximately 7:30am, the e-hailing driver had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale when he was confronted by the suspect, who accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend,” said Mathe.

The confrontation allegedly escalated when the suspect forced the driver into a vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene.

“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver,” Mathe added.

Despite the alleged ordeal, the driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately reported the incident at a nearby police station.

Police subsequently launched an operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspect shortly after the incident. Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.

Maarohanye faces charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in a public place.

He is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June.

As the matter is now before the courts, Maarohanye remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
