Cartrack South Africa and the family of 29-year-old Gcina Dhladhla have appealed for patience and restraint as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her death at the company’s Rosebank offices.

Dhladhla died on Saturday after being found inside a toilet cubicle at the workplace, an incident that has sparked widespread public concern and calls for accountability.

The matter has drawn significant attention in recent days, culminating in a protest outside Cartrack’s offices on Thursday led by the ANC Youth League in Gauteng. Demonstrators demanded answers regarding the events leading up to Dhladhla’s death and submitted a memorandum giving the company 14 days to respond to their concerns.

Amid growing public scrutiny, Cartrack South Africa Chief Executive Officer Joshua Victor met with members of Dhladhla’s family on Thursday in what both parties described as an open and constructive discussion.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the family and the company said they share a common goal: ensuring that all the facts are established through independent investigations currently underway.

The meeting allowed relatives to raise questions and receive information about the events surrounding Dhladhla’s death while discussing the next steps in the process.

Family representative Thamsanqa Mbuli said the engagement helped provide some clarity and marked an important step in the family’s healing journey.

Dhladhla’s sister, Lindiwe, also welcomed the discussions, saying they brought her a measure of comfort during a difficult period.

Victor expressed condolences on behalf of the company, describing Dhladhla as a valued member of the Cartrack team whose loss has been deeply felt throughout the organisation.

He said the company remains committed to cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities and the Department of Employment and Labour as investigations continue.

The company and the family have both urged the public to allow investigators to complete their work before drawing conclusions about what may have happened.

The appeal comes as questions continue to circulate regarding reports that Dhladhla had allegedly informed a supervisor that she was feeling unwell before her death. Those claims remain part of matters being examined by investigators.

During Thursday’s demonstration, additional allegations surfaced that some employees had been prevented from leaving the building while the protest was taking place. Protest organisers repeated the claims, although the company has not publicly commented on the allegations.

Following the protest, employees were observed leaving the building, while others remained outside speaking with colleagues.

In their joint statement, both Cartrack and the Dhladhla family emphasised the importance of allowing an evidence-based process to determine exactly what transpired.

The family also called on supporters to avoid directing hostility towards Cartrack employees, noting that many of Dhladhla’s colleagues are also mourning her loss.

Dhladhla will be laid to rest on Saturday, 13 June. Her family has extended an invitation to her colleagues, managers and Cartrack representatives to attend the funeral and pay their respects.

As investigations continue, both the family and the company say their focus remains on honouring Dhladhla’s memory, supporting those affected by her passing and ensuring that the truth is established through the appropriate channels.
